Horsell Bowling Club - Internal Competitions

Internal Competition Formats

All competitions are played in knockout tournament format.

Please remember, if your name appears first on the competition sheet, then you are the challenger and it's
your responsibility to contact your opponent, book the rink and arrange a marker if applicable.

Please also note that the person listed first in any of the Pairs competitions is the Skip
and your positions cannot be interchanged.


Men's Championship
Open to all male members. Four woods each. First to reach 21 shots.
Ladies Championship
Open to all female members. Four woods each. First to reach 21 shots.
Three Wood
Open to all members. Three woods each. Played over 18 ends.
Jack Bond
Open to all members. Four woods each. First to score 100 points.
Scoring is 4 points for shot wood, 3 for 2nd wood, 2 for 3rd wood and 1 for 4th wood.
If tied for any position only the closer positions score.
Despite the overall score in any particular end the player with the closest bowl to the jack has the mat on the next end.

Veterans
Open to all members age 70 and over as at 1st April. Four woods each. First to reach 21 shots.
Men's Pairs
Open to all male members. Seeded drawn pairings. Three woods each. Played over 18 ends
Ladies Pairs
Open to all female members. Seeded drawn pairings. Three woods each. Played over 18 ends.
Mixed Pairs
Open to all members. Seeded drawn pairings. Three woods each. Played over 18 ends.
Handicap
Open to all members. Four woods each. First to 21 shots plus the difference in allocated handicap.
Statistically validated handicap which gives every player a realistic chance of winning.
Novice Singles
Open to all members who have never won a singles competition in any club. Four woods each. First to 21 shots.
Australian Pairs
Open to all members. Open drawn pairings. Four woods each. Played over 15 ends.
Each player alternates in Lead and Skip positions. A very entertaining variation on the usual style of bowls.
New Bowlers 
Open to all members who joined in the current year. Format depends on number of new members. 

Members who enter any of the competitions above must be available to play on either day over the
Finals Weekend shown on the website, competition form and on the fixtures list. 


The following competitions do not involve a Final match on Finals Day so are an ideal opportunity for
members to gain valuable match practice or those unable to play on Finals Day.


Mixed Triples

Open to all members. Two woods each. Played in seeded teams to give everyone a chance.
Mixed Pairs Fun Afternoon
Open to all members. 
Played one weekend afternoon, towards the end of the
bowling season starting at 14.00. Date on the Fixtures list.

Ladies & Men's Trophy Games
Open to all members. Ladies play on Monday afternoon and Men on Tuesday morning.
The best 6 scores for each of the Ladies and Men will lead to a final of the competitions - date to be
flexible and decided with all finalists agreement. Ideal for new members to gain valuable experience.

Two Wood Mixed Pairs Competition
Open to all members. Choose your own partner. Only two woods each player. Played over 2 sets to 7 shots.
Played towards the end of the bowling season starting mid August.
