About Us
Horsell Bowling Club has been around since 1920 and we are proud of its rich history.
We are a friendly club with a strong sense of community, and we currently have over one
hundred playing members, plus many others who just want to enjoy our social events.
We have fantastic bowling facilities and have lots of fun social events throughout the year.
Our lovely 6-rink green and modern Clubhouse is much appreciated by our members.
The Clubhouse is designed to welcome up to sixty guests. It features changing rooms, toilets
(including a disability toilet), a fantastic bar and a kitchen that comes in handy for serving
refreshments during matches and at all sorts of social events, cooking up some delicious hot food.
We have use of an adjoining small car park and, during the outdoor playing season, we have use
of our near-by Village Primary School’s car park on match days and at weekends.
Our aim is to provide bowling opportunities for all abilities and ages and we have an excellent
coaching team for new bowlers, as well as helping experienced bowlers to improve their game.
In addition to our well supported internal competitions, the Club has an exciting fixtures schedule,
featuring matches against local and County-wide clubs, plus the occasional visiting touring team.
We have Men’s, Ladies and Mixed teams competing in eight external Leagues
as well as various National and County knock-out cup competitions.
We also have an extensive schedule of slightly more relaxed Friendly matches that many of our
members, both new and experienced, love to play in. Our members always make sure our visitors
feel welcome, and the socialising over a cup of tea, or a drink at the bar, is just as important as the bowls!
Our social bowlers tend to focus on our internal games, which include general ‘roll-ups’; Tuesday morning
men’s and Monday afternoon ladies’ sessions; and our regular and very popular Friday Club nights.
We host popular weekly events during the winter, such as Table Tennis, Whist, Knitting and Natter, and
Short Mat Bowls. We also organise well supported social events like brunches, coffee mornings,
Quiz and Fun Games nights (darts, dominoes, board games, etc.), often with an accompanying supper.
These events also run throughout the summer, but not as often, as bowling is our main focus!
There is something for everyone at this all-year-round club.
